Fifth FRRC Call for Applications for FRRC Young Scientist Fellowships 2013/2014

FAIR-Russia Research Center (FRRC) announces the Fifth Call for applications for FRRC Master Student fellowships, PhD fellowships and postdoctoral fellowships to enable young scientists to carry out a research project at their institution in Russian Federation, with Russian and/or European supervising partner that can include some visits to GSI/FAIR.

The project proposal must deal with research and development (R&D) related to the International Accelerator Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) planned at GSI. In particular, it should address R&D on the new accelerator complex, or on one of the large experiments (collaborations) planned at the facility. Fellowships can be carried out in all scientific fields listed in enclosure 1. The conditions of each of the calls are specified in the call announcements hereinafter.

Application form in English and Russian. Applications must be filled in the specific form (disqualifying criteria) (see Annex 1);

Short e-mail confirmation of interest on proposed R&D for FAIR team (for accelerators) or FAIR experimental collaboration (from accelerator team or collaboration leader) is necessary. All confirmations for each accelerator team (experimental collaboration) can be summarized in one e-mail.

The selection of proposals will be carried out by FRRC, with the support of independent experts. Financial contracts with winners are to be concluded after the selection.

Master student fellowship: students for the FRRC fellowship must successfully completed 4-th year of one of certified Russian universities (or institutes). Fellowship must be a permanent resident of Russian Federation. S/he must be recommended by a Russian supervisor and a GSI/FAIR collaboration leader. The duration of the fellowship must be one year (with one year prolongation opportunity) and include possibility of financial support of one visit to GSI/FAIR and one visit to FRRC to take part in FAIR related seminars and meetings. The maximum allowable funding for a PhD fellowship is up to 8150 € for the one year. This will include a monthly individual grant of 400 € whilst in RF, travel costs and a living allowance whilst working in GSI/FAIR.

PhD fellowship: scientists eligible for the FRRC fellowship must be 35 years of age or less at the submission deadline and must be a citizen and permanent resident of Russian Federation. The young scientist must already be registered as working towards a PhD (equivalent to studying for a candidate degree in the RF) and will work for at least another one year towards the PhD degree. S/he must be recommended by a Russian supervisor and a GSI/FAIR collaboration leader. The duration of the fellowship must be one year (with one year prolongation opportunity) and include possibility of financial support of one visit to GSI/FAIR and one visit to FRRC to take part in FAIR related seminars and meetings. The maximum allowable funding for a PhD fellowship is up to 10700 € for the one year. This will include a monthly individual grant of 600 € whilst in RF, travel costs and a living allowance whilst working in GSI/FAIR.

Postdoctoral fellowship: scientists eligible for the FRRC fellowship must be 39 years of age or less at the submission deadline and must be a citizen and permanent resident of Russian Federation. Fellows (i.e. those who hold a doctoral or candidate degree) working at a RF scientific organization may apply for a fellowship to continue their research according to a work programme of high scientific quality. The young scientist must hold a research position in a Russian institute and must have published at least five scientific publications. S/he must be recommended by Russian supervisor and a GSI/FAIR collaboration leader.

The duration of the fellowship one year (with one year prolongation opportunity) and include possibility of financial support of one visit to GSI/FAIR and one visit to FRRC to take part in FAIR related seminars and meetings. The maximum allowable funding is up to 13400 € for the year. This will include a monthly individual grant of 800 € whilst in the RF, travel costs and a living allowance whilst working in GSI/FAIR.
