Sixth FRRC Call for Applications for FRRC Young Scientist Fellowships 2014/2015

FAIR-Russia Research Center (FRRC) announces the Sixth Call for applications for FRRC Master Student fellowships, PhD fellowships and postdoctoral fellowships for FAIR related research at their institution in Russian Federation, with Russian and/or European collaboration leaders’ supervision.

The project proposal must deal with research and development (R&D) of FAIR accelerator complex or with the experimental installations and detectors planned for the FAIR project. Fellowships can be carried out in all scientific fields listed in enclosure 1.

1.  Applications in English and Russian which must be filled in the specific form (disqualifying criteria);

2. Short e-mail confirmation of interest on proposed R&D from collaboration leader from German side is necessary. All confirmations for applicants from the same collaboration can be summarized in one e-mail.

The selection of proposals will be carried out by FRRC with the support of independent experts. Financial contracts with winners are to be concluded after the selection.

Selection criteria and financial conditions:

Master student fellowship: students for the FRRC fellowship must successfully complete 4-th year of one of certified Russian universities (or institutes). Fellowship must be a permanent resident of Russian Federation. He/she must be recommended by a Russian supervisor and a GSI/FAIR collaboration leader. The duration of the fellowship must be one year (with one year prolongation opportunity in case of successful work) and include possibility of financial support of visits to GSI/FAIR/FRRC as well as taking part in FAIR-related seminars and meetings. The maximum allowable funding for a master student fellowship is up to 8150 € for the one year. This will include a monthly individual grant of 400 € and travel costs (including transport and accommodation).

PhD fellowship: applicant must be a citizen and permanent resident of Russian Federation. The young scientist must be already registered as working towards a PhD (studying for a candidate degree or appliance in the RF) and will work for at least another one year towards the PhD degree. He/she must be recommended by a Russian supervisor and a GSI/FAIR collaboration leader. The duration of the fellowship must be one year (with one year prolongation opportunity in case of successful work) and include possibility of financial support of visits to GSI/FAIR/FRRC as well as taking part in FAIR-related seminars and meetings. The maximum allowable funding for a PhD fellowship is up to 10700 € for the one year. This will include a monthly individual grant of 600 € and travel costs (including transport and accommodation).

Postdoctoral fellowship: applicants must be 35 years of age or less at the submission deadline and must be a citizen and permanent resident of Russian Federation. He/she must be recommended by Russian supervisor and a GSI/FAIR collaboration leader. The duration of the fellowship must be one year (with one year prolongation opportunity in case of successful work) and include possibility of financial support of visits to GSI/FAIR/FRRC as well as taking part in FAIR-related seminars and meetings. The maximum allowable funding for a PhD fellowship is up to 13400 € for the one year. This will include a monthly individual grant of 800 € and travel costs (including transport and accommodation).
