Course of lectures on designing and giving talks on scientific projects, 26-27 of June 2017, Moscow

Course of training lectures on designing and giving talks on scientific projects (course) took place in the FAIR-Russia Research Center (FRRC) on 26-27 of June 2017. The lectures were given by Sascha Vogel – Scientific Coordinator of Helmholtz Graduate School for Hadron and Ion Research for FAIR, Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies, Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Winners of the Eighth FRRC Contest among students, PhD students and young PhDs as well as participants of the research groups, who work in FRRC in the scope of the Young Leaders Program, participated in the course.
The course included lectures on:
-proper slides design;
-posters design;
-proper visualization of information;
-proper presenting of slides and information to audience;
-Q&A with audience;
-pantomime and contact with audience.
The course was held in the form of presenting the projects. Participants gave presentations on scientific and science-related topics, after which they had active discussion: noted mistakes, time consumption, gestures, etc. After that participants were to correct the mistakes according to the results of the discussions and to present the presentations again without mistakes. Sascha Vogel also gave lectures on right techinques of avoiding typical mistakes in slides design, on proper contact with audience, etc.
The Course was successful. The lecturer noted big interest of the participants in the course and high level of activity during the lectures and presentations. Participants were satisfied with the Course. The lectures were held in informal atmosphere, which, in the lecturer's opinion, provides the best understanding and acquirement of knowledge as well as practicing presentation skills in front of the audience. Such courses have positive influence on the work of FRRC Contests winners and help them to develop themselves as versatile specialists.
